Explanation of Treatments

Neurotoxin treatments with Botox and Dysport:

Botulinum toxin type A purified protein derivative is injected just under the surface of the skin to relax underlying muscles by temporarily blocking the release of a chemical (neurotransmitter) that causes muscle contraction. This smooths overlying skin lines and wrinkles and causes facial muscle relaxation. Treatments are required q3-4 months. If you keep up with regular treatments over time, muscles become deconditioned such that treatment intervals can often be lengthened after some time ie q5-6 months. Topical anesthetic not required.

When used to treat migraines, it is injected slightly differently and at much higher doses with the purpose being to bathe the nerve endings involved in the migraine pain pathway to block the release of the same neurotransmitter that stimulates/triggers the nerve response. This causes desensitization of the nerve pathways over time. Treatments are required q12 weeks (strict treatment protocol required for optimal long term results).  Topical anesthetic not required

When used to treat hyperhidrosis, it is injected just under the surface of the skin in the axillary area (arm pits) to bathe the nerve endings in order to block release of the same neurotransmitter which blocks the sweating response. Treatments are often required q6-12 months. Topical anesthetic can be used to reduce discomfort.

Overall discomfort of Neurotoxin treatments is minimal (feels like a quick pinch/prick).

Difference between Botox and Dysport:

Botox is the brand name for a specific type A botulinum toxin, called onabotulinumtoxinA (ONA). Dysport is the brand name for another type A botulinum toxin, called abobotulinumtoxinA (ABO). Botox was first approved for cosmetic use in 2002, and Dysport in 2009.

Botox results take 1-3 weeks and last 3 months.

Dysport results take 2-5 days , lasting between 3 and 4 months

Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable used to enhance and rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. Let's break down what they are and how they work:

1. What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that helps keep our skin hydrated, plump, and elastic. It acts like a sponge, attracting and retaining water molecules to maintain moisture in the skin.

2. How do hyaluronic acid dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are made of a gel-like formulation containing hyaluronic acid. When injected into the skin, the filler adds volume and smoothness to areas that may have lost volume due to aging or other factors.

3. Replenishing lost volume:

As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases, leading to a loss of volume and the formation of wrinkles, lines, and folds. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers work by replenishing this lost volume, filling in those areas to restore a more youthful and plump appearance.

4. Skin rejuvenation and contouring:

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be used to improve various concerns, such as adding volume to thin lips, filling in deep lines and wrinkles, enhancing cheekbones, and contouring facial features. The filler is carefully injected into specific areas to achieve the desired outcome.

5. Temporary and customizable results:

One important aspect of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers is that their effects are not permanent. Over time, the body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid, and the results gradually fade. The duration of the results can vary depending on factors such as the specific product used and individual metabolism.

It's important to note that hyaluronic acid dermal fillers should be administered by trained medical professionals as there are potential risks involved, which can be mitigated by a health care professional who knows what to watch out for and how to treat early signs of complications and is able to prescribe medications to help treat any side effects and complications(arterial occlusion being the worse case scenario).  They can assess each patient's unique needs and determine the appropriate amount and placement of the filler to achieve natural-looking results.

Topical anesthetic can be applied to minimize discomfort. Also, most dermal fillers contain lidocaine which help to minimize discomfort of the procedure.

Microneedling with Salient MD’s E-pen and using hyaluronic acid serum:

Description of the Procedure and the Pen:

The E-Pen is an Epidermal Micro-Exfoliation (EME) device used to create controlled micro-injury under the surface of the skin (in the dermis) in order to stimulate the body’s natural healing process to produce collagen.

Our pen is unique in that it has twelve needles that are all 32 gauge (very tiny which improves comfort) and has a depth customization to allow us to penetrate skin at different depths up to 2mm.

It is designed for use by skin care professionals. The procedure is performed in a safe and precise manner utilizing the Turbo Safety CartridgeTM, a sterile micro-exfoliation component. It has been clinically shown to help regenerate and regrow hair as a treatment for hair loss in both men and women in the earlier stages of hair loss.

Exosome balm is a product used in the medical aesthetic field that offers several benefits for the skin. To understand exosome balm, let's break it down step by step:

What are exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny particles naturally produced by our own cells. Think of them as tiny messengers that carry important information between cells. They contain proteins, lipids, and genetic material, such as RNA, which play crucial roles in cell communication and regeneration.

How does exosome balm work?

Exosome balm is created by isolating exosomes from certain cells, typically stem cells, and formulating them into a topical product like a balm or cream. When applied to the skin, the exosomes in the balm are absorbed by the skin cells.

Sourcing of exosomes:

The exosomes used in medical-grade exosome balms are typically derived from donated human stem cells or other sources, such as plants or laboratory cultures. It's important to note that these exosomes are carefully purified and processed to ensure their safety and effectiveness.

In summary, exosome balm is a skincare product that utilizes naturally occurring exosomes to promote skin rejuvenation, collagen production, and hydration. It's a safe and non-invasive option that can potentially enhance the overall appearance and health of the skin.

Instructions for use:

-For post treatment application for healing: we can use the 2.5 billion Exosomes vial from the ExoBalm on a client after microneedle or laser treatment by mixing it with the balm and applying it on.  You can also mix the exosomes powder with 2-3 cc of saline (shake well to mix) and apply that to the skin so the patient has the benefit of all 2.5 billion exosomes at once post treatment.  Give them the balm base to use at home as it has tons of growth factors that will help with speeding up healing and making their skin fresh and healthy.

-For treatment of hair loss: For a 5B dosage it would require 2 EXOBalms, with the added benefit of rose exosomes for soothing and calming the skin. You can mix two vials of the balm with 5-6 cc of saline and apply it topically to the scalp post microneedle. Then send the patient home with the balm to help with healing over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Skin boosters

Skinboosters are a specialized cosmetic injectable treatment that uses hyaluronic acid to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin to improve overall skin quality and glow. Restylane, Allergan and many other companies produce them. Here's how it works:

1. Hyaluronic acid boost:

Skinboosters involve injecting tiny amounts of a specially formulated hyaluronic acid gel directly into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in our bodies that helps maintain moisture, elasticity, and firmness in the skin.

2. Intense hydration:

Once injected, the hyaluronic acid in Skinboosters attracts and binds water molecules, providing intense hydration to the treated areas. This helps improve the skin's moisture balance, making it plumper, smoother, and more radiant.

3. Skin quality improvement:

In addition to hydration, Restylane Skinboosters can also improve the overall quality of the skin. The treatment can help reduce fine lines, improve skin texture, and enhance the elasticity and firmness of the skin.

4. Gradual and long-lasting results:

The effects of Skinboosters are typically seen gradually, as the hyaluronic acid integrates with the skin and stimulates collagen production. The results can last for several months, and ongoing maintenance treatments may be recommended to maintain the benefits.

Skinboosters is often used to treat areas such as the face, neck, hands, and décolletage. It can be an effective option for individuals looking to achieve smoother, more hydrated, and rejuvenated skin without undergoing more invasive procedures.

It's important to note that only trained medical professionals, such as doctors or nurses, should administer Skinboosters. They will have the knowledge and expertise to assess each patient's needs and customize the treatment accordingly

Sculptra

Sculptra is a type of cosmetic injectable “biostimulator”, meaning it acts to stimulate your own collagen production in order to replenish lost volume, improve skin quality/elasticity and provide a lift (reduce sagginess) and improve the overall appearance of the face.

It is a PLLA injectable (Poly-L lactic acid). It provides natural results with improvement in appearance happening gradually over a series of 2-3 treatments and lasting 2 years. It has been well studied and on the market for decades and tweaked to now allow for mixing with lidocaine to make the procedure less uncomfortable. It is injected similarly to how dermal filler is injected with the goal being:

1. Volume restoration:

It works to restore lost volume caused by aging or other factors. This can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and hollow areas.

2. Collagen stimulation:

One of the unique aspects of Sculptra is its ability to stimulate collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and support to our skin. By promoting collagen production, Sculptra helps improve the skin's elasticity and firmness over time.

3. Gradual results:

Unlike other dermal fillers, the results of Sculptra are not immediate. Instead, Sculptra works gradually, with the full effects becoming noticeable over a few months. This allows for a natural-looking transformation that develops over time.

4. Long-lasting outcomes:

The benefits of Sculptra can last for a significant period, typically up to two years or more. The long-lasting results make it an attractive option for individuals seeking a sustainable solution for facial volume restoration.

It's essential to mention that Sculptra should be administered by trained medical professionals, such as doctors or nurses, who have expertise in aesthetic procedures. They will assess each patient's unique needs and develop a treatment plan tailored to their specific goals and facial structure.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections

PRP is a natural treatment that uses the body's own platelets to improve the skin and address hair loss. Here's how it works:

1. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP):

PRP is derived from your own blood. It involves taking a small sample of your blood and processing it to isolate a concentrated solution of platelets and growth factors.

2. Skin Improvement:

For skin improvement, the PRP is injected  (or applied topically) to the targeted areas of the skin. We use the U225 mesotherapy compressor gun to inject the PRP to the required depth without inflicting excessive discomfort. White topical anesthesia can be applied,  most of our clients prefer not to use topical anesthetic in order to decrease overall treatment time. The growth factors in PRP help stimulate collagen production, improve blood circulation, and support tissue regeneration. This can lead to improved skin texture, glow, reduced fine lines, and a more youthful appearance.

3. Hair Loss Treatment:

For hair loss, the PRP is typically injected into the scalp in areas experiencing thinning or baldness. The growth factors in PRP promote hair follicle health, stimulate dormant hair follicles, and prolong the active growth phase of the hair cycle. This can result in thicker, fuller hair over time.

4. Natural Healing and Regeneration:

PRP works by harnessing the body's natural healing and regenerative abilities. The concentrated platelets and growth factors in PRP help kickstart the body's repair processes, encouraging the growth of new cells and revitalizing the targeted areas.

5. Personalized Treatment:

The treatment plan and frequency of PRP sessions may vary depending on individual needs and the severity of the condition being addressed. Multiple treatment sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal results, and maintenance treatments may be necessary to sustain the improvements over time.

PRP can be used on any area of the body ie even stretch marks and bodily scars like c-section scars. It is natural as it uses one’s own blood so there is no chance of allergic reaction.

It's important to note that PRP treatments for skin improvement and hair loss should be performed by qualified medical professionals, such as dermatologists or trained practitioners, who have expertise in administering PRP. They will evaluate each patient's specific concerns and develop a personalized treatment plan.

XEO Treatments

The XEO laser by Cutera is a versatile medical device that uses various types of energy to target and treat different skin concerns.

Multiple Applications:

The XEO laser is designed to address a range of skin concerns. It can be used for hair removal, skin rejuvenation, vascular conditions, pigmented lesions, treatment of skin tags and warts.

Each treatment utilizes specific wavelengths of light that are absorbed by different target tissues in the skin.

Energy Delivery:

The XEO laser delivers different types of energy, depending on the treatment being performed. For example, in hair removal, the laser emits a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles, damaging them and inhibiting future hair growth. In skin rejuvenation, the laser may deliver energy to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone.

We have 3 different hand pieces to go with our XEO: 1. Nd: YAG laser, 2. Limelight IPL (intense pulse light or IPL therapy), 3. Prowave (another form of IPL)

Here's a breakdown of how these handpieces work:

Nd: YAG 1064 Laser:

    1. The 1064 Nd: YAG laser uses a specific type of crystal, called neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG), to generate a laser beam. This laser beam emits light energy at a wavelength of 1064 nanometers.

    2. Penetration and Targeting: The 1064 nm wavelength of the Nd: YAG laser is highly attracted to and effectively penetrates deeper layers of the skin. It can target specific structures or chromophores in the skin, such as pigment, blood vessels, or water.

    3. works based on a principle called selective photothermolysis. This means that the laser energy is absorbed by specific target structures in the skin, such as hair follicles or blood vessels, without significantly affecting the surrounding tissues. This allows for precise and targeted treatment while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin.

    4.  Targeting Pigmentation:

For the treatment of pigmentation concerns, such as freckles, sunspots, or birthmarks, the 1064 Nd: YAG laser selectively targets the excess pigment (melanin) in the skin. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment, causing it to break down into smaller particles. Over time, the body's natural processes eliminate these fragmented pigments, resulting in a more even skin tone

  1. Treating Vascular Lesions: The 1064 Nd: YAG laser can also target and treat vascular lesions, such as spider veins or certain types of birthmarks. The laser energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, generating heat. This heat causes the targeted blood vessels to coagulate and eventually be reabsorbed by the body, leading to their reduction or elimination.

  2. Laser Hair removal: by targeting pigmented hair follicles, it effectively destroys them permanently.

  3. Safe for ALL SKIN TYPES (ie skin types 4-6) - It is the only type of laser that is safe for darker skin tones! It is less likely to cause pigmentation changes or damage to the skin compared to other laser types.

  4. Collagen Stimulation: In addition to pigment and vascular treatments, the 1064 Nd: YAG laser can stimulate collagen production in the skin. The laser energy heats the deeper layers of the skin, promoting the growth of new collagen fibers. Increased collagen production can improve skin elasticity, texture, and overall appearance. This is the basis of the Laser Genesis treatment we offer.

Limelight IPL is a cosmetic procedure that uses specific wavelengths of light to address various skin concerns. Note: it is NOT a laser. Here's how it works:

    1. Emits a broad spectrum of light with different wavelengths, allowing them to target different skin issues.

    2. The Limelight IPL treatment works based on a principle called selective photothermolysis. The light energy is absorbed by specific target structures in the skin, such as pigmented areas or blood vessels, without significantly affecting the surrounding tissues.

    3. The Limelight IPL treatment is primarily used to address skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, sunspots, freckles, redness, and small blood vessels on the face, neck, or chest. The light energy is absorbed by the pigmented cells or blood vessels, leading to their destruction or coagulation.

    4. . Collagen Stimulation: can stimulate collagen production in the skin. The heat generated by the light energy promotes the growth of new collagen fibers, which can improve skin texture, tone, and overall quality ie THE PHOTOFACIAL

    5.  Gradual Results: after undergoing the Limelight IPL treatment, it may take a few weeks for the desired results to become noticeable. The targeted areas may darken initially, and then gradually fade or flake off, revealing clearer, more even-toned skin. Multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve optimal outcomes.

Prowave IPL:

The ProWave handpiece is a specific component or attachment of the XEO laser system by Cutera. It is designed to deliver advanced hair removal treatments using a large surface area handpiece using targeted light energy. It is a very effective and TIME EFFICIENT method for laser hair removal. Here's some information about the ProWave handpiece:

    1. Hair Removal: The ProWave handpiece is primarily used for hair removal procedures. It emits pulses of intense light that are absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. This absorbed energy heats and damages the hair follicles, inhibiting their ability to produce new hair growth. THE PROWAVE IS UNIQUE IN THAT IT CAN TARGET LIGHT COLOURED HAIR (BLONDE, LIGHT BROWN AND RED) IN A WAY THAT MOST IPL devices CANNOT)

    2. This versatility allows for safe and efficient hair removal on a wide range of individuals including patients with skin type 4 and up.

    3. Customizable Treatment: The ProWave handpiece offers customizable treatment options to accommodate different areas of the body and individual needs. The settings can be adjusted based on factors such as hair thickness, skin type, and treatment area, ensuring optimal results and patient comfort.

    4. Comfortable and Efficient: The ProWave handpiece incorporates advanced cooling technology to keep the surrounding skin cool and minimize discomfort during the treatment. This cooling feature helps protect the skin while allowing for more efficient energy delivery to the hair follicles.

    5. Fast and Effective: The ProWave handpiece is designed to deliver quick treatment sessions due to its large spot size, enabling faster coverage of larger areas such as the legs or back. This makes it a convenient option for individuals seeking efficient and effective hair removal treatments.

It's important to note that the XEO laser should only be operated by trained professionals who work under supervision of a physician as there are many potential complications/side effects from laser treatments that may require assessment and treatment by a healthcare professional.. They will assess each client's skin condition, determine the appropriate treatment settings, and ensure the procedure is performed safely and effectively.

Latisse eyelash enhancement

As we age, our lashes get thinner, shorter and lighter in colour. LATISSE® is the first and only prescription eyelash product in Canada to treat eyelash hypotrichosis, which is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

The active ingredient in Latisse is: bimatoprost 0.03% topical eye solution. This is a synthetic version of a natural prostaglandin. Prostaglandins are substances found in the body that play a role in various physiological processes, including hair growth.

Latisse is clinically proven to grow longer, darker, fuller lashes in 8-12 weeks

When applied to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile applicator, Latisse works by extending the growth phase (anagen phase) of the eyelash hair cycle. This means that the individual eyelashes stay in the growth phase for a longer period, allowing them to grow longer, darker and become thicker.

Unlike over-the-counter eyelash products that condition and moisturize lashes, or mascara products that make your lashes look longer than they are, LATISSE® is indicated for increasing growth including length, thickness and darkness.

Application and Results:

Latisse is typically applied once a day, usually in the evening, to clean and dry skin along the upper lash line. Results are not immediate and may take several weeks to become noticeable. Continuous and consistent use is necessary to maintain the enhanced appearance of the lashes.

Latisse is safe and well tolerated by most when applied correctly (ie it should ONLY be applied to the upper lash line). Any side effects, if they do occur, tend to be mild and not serious. Possible Side effects: eye itch, eye redness, hyperpigmentation of skin on eyelid, dry eye, redness of eyelid. The most serious potential side effect is <1% risk of increased iris pigmentation which would be permanent. If any side effects develop, patients should stop the treatment and report back to us.

It is possible for hair growth to occur in other areas of the skin that LATISSE® frequently touches. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue to reduce the chance of this happening.

Latisse should not be used amongst following patients:

-patients with glaucoma on other bimatoprost products

-patients going for eye surgery

-patients with active eye infection/inflammation
